Turning old into new – Upcycling at HALFAR®

What actually happens to a truck tarpaulin which one has no further use for? At HALFAR®, we utilize it to create new bags. The German ZDF television crew that also produces the TV show WISO has filmed the way which an upcycled truck tarpaulin is undergoing. In the end, our sewing workers used the tarpaulin cuttings to make individual WISO backpacks of it. Just click at the picture below to see the full video.

HALFAR® How to: How do you fold the SKY bags correctly?

Our new SKY Series has been available for a few months and has been enjoying great popularity. This doesn’t just happen by chance. The modern design in combination with particularly beautiful colours turns the bags of this range into eye catchers. And their highlights, such as the folding functions, make them into practical helpers in everyday life. As we have received many questions regarding how to fold these bags correctly, we simply shot a video tutorial for you.

Here we go!

Step 1

Spread the bag out in front of you. Roll the inner bag up to the left and put it on the outside. The folded bag will later disappear into this inner bag.

Step 2

Now close the bag and fold the sides into the middle.

Step 3

Then fold the bag towards the inner bag and stow it inside it. Now just close the zipper of the inner bag.

Step 4

Put the folded bag in your suitcase and off you go on holiday!

Now nothing will get in the way of your holiday at the seaside. We hope that we were able to help you with these instructions and wish you lots of fun with our bags from the SKY range!

HAPTICA® live with the Promotional Gift Award 2019

The time had come again, and the HAPTICA® live opened its doors on 19th and 20th March 2019. The motto of this year’s event was “Look & Feel” and accordingly, there was plenty to see and touch. 198 exhibitors at the World Conference Center Bonn (WCCB) presented innovations, bestsellers and highlights from their programs, impressing the 1,840 visitors to the event. A large number of visitors from marketing, purchasing, agencies and the promotional products trade were fascinated by the possibilities and a further in the quality of haptic advertising material.

This was also helped by the fact that, for the first time, the 44 winners of the Promotional Gift Award 2019, the Oscar amongst advertising prizes, were not presented in showcases but in an open presentation form.

This form of presentation enabled visitors not only to look at the winning products, but to try them out and to grasp them in the truest sense of the word. In this way, they were able to get a full idea of what had encouraged the jury to choose the product and the extraordinary things about haptic advertising.

The DIAMOND backpack by HALFAR® was also able to capture both the jury and the audience this year.

Sustainably produced?

With all the advantages, the question remains: How was the product made? The DIAMOND backpacks, just like all other HALFAR® bags, are all manufactured in compliance with the ILO core labour standard. This ensures that production is assured from a social point of view. The agreement includes the exclusion of child labour and forced labour for example, and gives workers the right to undertake collective bargaining; a guarantee of adequate wages. The fact that the agreements are not only valid on paper, but also complied with, i.e. that the working conditions and quality of the product are right, is guaranteed by HALFAR® via local employees, audits and regular inspections.

The constituent parts also impress. The material of the DIAMOND is durable, marketable and safe to use and does not require the use of PVC and the associated plasticizers. The constituent parts of the materials used are tested by independent institutes; something we guarantee through our “tested materials” label.

All about the newly discovered wanderlust and love of the outdoors

“Kids, the weather is so great, go outside!” Those, like me, who grew up listening to this sentence, often have a double-edged relationship with a blue sky. Naturally, as a child I would sometimes also have rather spent more time indoors or in front of the television than was good for me. When I had to go outdoors, however, I really could take pleasure in being outside.

No one is left out with the outdoors

The word outdoors had not been invented when I used to meet with friends outside; rolling down North German dikes, stomping in rubber boots in fish ponds, collecting conkers, and it did not exist when I went camping, cycling and made fires as teenager. And yet always noticed again and again: Outdoors is more than just the fresh air my mother wanted me to experience. Outdoors is, in the best sense of the word, is the feeling of being “untroubled”, being free.

Today outdoors is a megatrend and a lifestyle. Here are just a few examples for what people like to do outside today:

  • Eating outdoors is in. Ever larger barbeques and completely furnished garden kitchens prove this impressively.
  • Drinking outdoors is in. Beer gardens blossom even in the north of the republic and quite often innkeepers extend the season into the winter with blankets and heaters.
  • Working outdoors is in. Urban gardening is the trend, such as growing vegetables – even in the city. On balconies, in front gardens or in rediscovered allotment gardens people are raking, sowing and harvesting to their heart’s content. Above all: Hiking! Since Hape Kerkeling’s book “I’m off then” at the latest, a real stampede has headed towards pilgrim and hiking routes. Today, even hipsters from the city lace up their hiking boots at the weekend and setting off. Sauerland, Harz and Teutoburger Forest are no longer synonymous with a bourgeois way of life but are hot new destinations for weekend trips.

Sometimes it is necessary to simply take advantage of opportunities offered. Above all, when they are as wonderful and professional as this one!

So what happened? One lovely day, a mail was sent to us from Daiber, our affiliated company. Could we possibly support them with their outdoor-theme photoshooting? “You’ve got quite a few nice backpacks there…”

“Yes, we most certainly have!” – and they impressed our model Ben so much that today you can marvel at this small but sophisticated outcut film, created as a hommage and a thank you to his new HALFAR® backpack.

Enjoying the freedom of being outdoors, heading right up to the mountain peaks, coming directly in contact with the natural world. Soft, golden light; wild mountain streams, weasels and marmots – thus far the theoretical impression of an outdoor adventure hike to a mounting lodge. And the photoshooting team were able to reflect all of this in their images.

In view of the tasks ahead, the stylists asked themselves:

“What are all the things that have to go into a day trip backpack?”

“Well, really a sleeping bag for the mountain lodge, plasters, washing items, a cap, a water bottle…ah, this is where you can fit in a drinking system. Wow, there’s still some space left!” “And if it rains, he can also protect himself from the rain.”

“Where?”
“Look, in the bottom section of the bag.”
“Ah!”
“But of course, it shouldn’t rain!”
“No, but you still have to fit a drinking bottle in, and the snap hook at the side.”
“What are the loops for?”
“You can fasten your hiking poles there if you have to keep your hands free.”
“Aha!”

Once everything has been prepared and the models attired and styled, the process begins. The dew is still on the meadow whilst the models struggle up the first hills. An amazing view over the valley opens up in front of the entire crew. Meadows and green foliage; further away the mountains are white with snow. The morning mist steams. A real outdoor-feeling atmosphere is created.

The beginning of a love story

Delighted by the view, part of the group decide to leave the road and go across the fields for a while, They don’t want to cross the mountain stream using the bridge, but rather on foot. “Anyone can take the easy way,“ they think, and scramble down the slope again in the direction of the stream. “That should really make for great photos!“ crows the Marketing Manager.

However, what no-one has thought of on seeing the idyllic stream was the icy cold water.

“Think of the images!” they cry, firing model Ben on

“This isn’t a job for softies,” he grins.

Ben works his way onward over slippery stones with his hiking boots in his hand, pleased that he can unzip the legs of his trousers and that the backpack sits securely and stably on his back. The fact that he can fasten his cap and hiking shoes to the backpack impresses him greatly. The foundation for a love story was thus laid – and the everyday use of the backpack did the rest!

A climb with interesting encounters

Delighted to have got away with dry trousers from his little expedition, our daring model climbs back onto the bank. The venturous plan of tickling fish and grilling them over an open fire is rejected, laughing, by the group. “Let’s go back to the others,” they decide, and set off on the ascent in the direction of the mountain lodge.

It soon becomes clear why they had constantly felt watched during their little adventure. A herd of brown and white cows had been observing events at the mountain stream with great curiosity. Above all a little cow with brown ears and a sleepy gaze had enjoyed watching the creative process so much that it made it into our film!

The crowning glory of an eventful day

On reaching the mountain lodge, exhausted yet happy, it was revealed that the stylists had not just thought about the production of good photos, but also about the happiness of their colleagues and models. Instead of the sleeping bag and toothbrush, they conjured up diverse delicacies from the backpacks. The rustic wooden table was filled with delicious food. Soon everyone was sitting chatting and laughing, bringing the eventful day to a jovial end together.
