INTERVIEW WITH APPRENTICES: INDUSTRIAL MANAGEMENT

Apprenticeship at Halfar - Interview with Florian

In the third part of our interview series "Apprenticeship at Halfar - Apprentices in an interview", Jacqueline reported on her experiences during her apprenticeship as a media designer.

Now Florian talks about his time at Halfar so far. He has been with Halfar since August 2017 and is expected to complete his apprenticeship as industrial management assistant this summer.

More about apprenticeships at Halfar

Florian, why did you decide to do an apprenticeship after school and not go to university?

During my A-levels, I quickly realised that I wanted to gain practical experience first. That's when I decided in favour of an apprenticeship. A voluntary social year was out of the question for me, as I can gain knowledge through commercial training that is helpful for studying.

How did you hear about an apprenticeship at Halfar?

I wanted to stay in Bielefeld or the surrounding area. My girlfriend at the time told me about her internship at Halfar. That convinced me, so I applied.

How long do you expect your apprenticeship to last?

If everything goes well, I'll be finished in summer 2019.

What were your first impressions at Halfar?

I got my first positive impressions even before my interview. Every member of staff said a friendly hello or even tried to ease my nerves. This impression was confirmed in the first few weeks. There is a relaxed yet hard-working atmosphere everywhere.

What activities have you been able to learn and apply so far?

As I have already worked in most departments, I have already learnt a lot. This includes, for example, creating purchase orders, orders and quotations as well as posting invoices in the accounting programme.

What are your plans for your time at Halfar?

I would love to continue working at Halfar after my apprenticeship and support the team as much as I can.

What has been your favourite part so far?

I had the best time in Sales. My colleagues were very helpful and always gave me useful tips. I also enjoyed advising customers on the phone more and more, although I was nervous at the beginning. I'm already looking forward to working in Export Sales.

What have you liked least so far?

I can't answer that exactly. There are tasks in every department that you enjoy doing more or less.

What makes Halfar a good company for an apprenticeship?

For me, it's definitely the working atmosphere and the way the trainees are treated. You are seen as part of the team in every department and are allowed to work independently, which is the best way to learn. The employees are simply interested in passing on their knowledge.

Thank you very much for the interview Florian! We wish you every success in your final exams!
